Johnie Garet Snedeker, 70, passed away about 3:10 p.m. Thursday August 3, 1989, at his residence in Marshall, IL, of an apparent heart attack. Born June 2, 1919 in Wabash Township, he was a son of John and Elva Matthew Snedeker. He was a retired contractor and had worked in the area; was a member of the American Legion Post 90, National Rifle Association and World War II Veteran (U.S. Navy) from 06-10-1942 till 09-28-1945, Carpenter First Class, on the ship, the U.S. NAS Saint Louis, stationed in the South Pacific.
A very devout practicing Christian, he was fond of quoting Will Rogers: “I never met a man I didn’t like.” He was truly mourned by his family and community at his passing. Specially by his daughters and sons: Winifred Lou Chapell, Loretta Thompson, Johnie Theodore Snedeker, Kenneth Snedeker +, Vance Snedeker, Eric Snedeker and Timothy Snedeker.
