Christopher Columbus


The Italian explorer Christopher Columbus has been credited for opening the New World (Americas) to colonization, after he landed in Bahamas in 1492, in an attempt to find a new route to Asia on a voyage sponsored by King Ferdinand of Spain. In total Columbus made four travels to the Caribbean and South America.  He died on May 20, 1506, in Valladolid, Spain.
