No matter the time of year, it’s so important to honor the fallen heroes and surviving veterans that fought for our country. Since the founding of our nation, more than 1.3 million men and women have died in the line of duty–from the Revolutionary War to the wars in Afghanistan and Syria. We owe our lives, our gratitude, and our freedom to these brave men and women. And for that, we should always honor them. Here are a few great ways to respect and pay tribute to our fallen heroes and veterans:

Always Say Thank You

If you cross paths with a veteran, whether it’s in the grocery store, mall, restaurant, etc., you should always thank them for their service. A simple ‘thank you’ can really let them know our deep appreciation for them and everything that they have done for our country.

Clean and Decorate the Graves

There are many cemeteries that are specifically for the men and women who have fallen in battle. Unfortunately, these special cemeteries can sometimes be neglected due to the lack of funding, remote area, or vast nature. Taking the time to clean these graves and decorate them with nice flowers, ribbons, flags, and signs are truly wonderful ways to honor these fallen heroes. Not to mention, any surviving family members our fallen heroes might have will be very touched as well. This is a simple gesture that speaks volumes.

Create an Online In Memoriam

Creating an online In Memoriam or celebration of life page for a fallen veteran is a wonderful way to immortalize their legacy. People of all ages and from all over can visit this special page and pay tribute to these fallen heroes. Leave behind old photos, heartfelt quotes, and lovely messages from the world to see.

One of the best ways to honor the fallen is to keep their legacy and memory alive. This is especially true for the families of these brave men and women. Share their stories, express your gratitude, and honor them every chance you get. While we have special days that are dedicated to men and women in the service, remembering the fallen past that one special day is incredibly important. With the above-mentioned ways to respect and pay tribute to fallen heroes, their sacrifice will never be in vain.
